Willa Cather's "Neighbour Rosicky." Her story explores several literary conflicts that can be found in other fiction from the same period: urban vs. rural life, insider vs. outsider, men v. women, etc. Discuss how the story deals with these themes, and consider Rosicky himself. Is he too good to be true? Does he change, grow, or evolve over the course of the story? Remember: a typical response paper includes a brief description of what you read, an interpretation of something important about it, and an important observation that you gleaned about human nature, the human condition, or yourself as a result of the reading. Your paper should be about 2.5 pages, double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides of the page. Include some carefully selected quotations from the story to illustrate and explain your ideas. Quotations must be attributed in MLA style. Must source: Nina Baym, et al., eds. The Norton Anthology of American literature, vol 2, 8th ed.
