This assignment is worth 30 per cent of your final grade.
Research Paper Purpose:
The purpose of the research paper is to provide you with the opportunity to become an expert on a topic that interests you, in formulating a testable hypothesis and, in the design of a research project, to test your hypothesis.
The topic must be based on at least two research articles published after 2010.
Get started:
1. Browse the literature on animal behaviour (see below for a partial list of relevant journals).
2.Find a topic that interests you. Make sure you can access at least two recent articles published after 2010 (review articles do not count).3. Once you have chosen a topic, email your Open Learning Faculty Member your topic and the full references of the two articles you have identified using the CSE citation style.
4. Once your topic and references have been approved by your faculty member, start building your hypothesis and writing your paper.
Build your hypothesis:
Gain familiarity with your topic.
Read your two recent articles with a critical eye, and take note of the articles they cite to support their argument and read those articles as well.
Formulate a hypothesis based on your readings.
Write your research paper:
Once you have done your reading and formulated your hypothesis, begin writing your research paper. The paper should be 12 pages, 12‐point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced, excluding the cover page, Literature Cited page(s), and tables and figures (one per page).
The first 7–8 pages should be used to introduce your topic and present your hypothesis and prediction(s) if any. The remaining 4–5 pages should be used to describe your methods and how you would go about testing your hypothesis. Be sure to include references to support your choice of species and methodology.
