Still Doing It: Morality, and Sexual Pleasure and Activities of Older Adults

192

“The state, through laws and enforcement, acts as the guardian of morality, constructing appropriate sexualities. While we might like to believe that desire is a personal choice or a natural urge, the state has a distinct role in shaping who is a suitable object and what methods can be used to express that desire.” Misty Luminais (2015), “Sexuality, the State and Social Control” in T. S. Weinberg & S. Newmahr (Eds.) Sex, symbols and sexuality: An interactionist anthology. (pp. 31-44). London, UK: Sage.

Critically discuss Luminais’s assertion, using examples drawn from ONE marginalized sexual practice ONLY (e.g., asexuality or BDSM or polyamory or bisexuality or sex among younger or older individuals) to support your argument.

For this topic, start your reading with the Luminais chapter.

The essay should be presented in APA format.  It should therefore contain the following sections.
    1.    An Abstract of the essay (Maximum: 250 words). NOTE: The Abstract is not included in the word limit for the essay.

    2.    An Introduction, in which the argument to be developed in the essay is clearly stated.

    3.    A Body, in which steps in the argument are clearly developed and elaborated (usually a minimum of three paragraphs).

    4.    A Conclusion, in which the themes of the essay are drawn together, and the essay’s argument summarized.
