Siblings role in the development of resilience in childhood sexual abuse

57

Several studies said that there was a gap in the literature in relation to the identification of social factors that may combine to predict the resilience to lasting harm that has been found in a significant portion of female survivors (Finkelhor, 1990).

What aspects of the relationship with siblings, or a sibling, positively contributed to the development of resilience, that left the victims with no lasting psychological harm?

There is sparse literature on elderly survivors of child sexual abuse (I would like to look at the baby-boomer generation), it seems that there was ample research done between 1970 to 1998, and very little after.

I would design a questionnaire suitable for a semi-structured interview and employ Thematic Analysis to identify the main themes. I would like you to do the following:

1. Introduction:

(Support from appropriate scholarly sources, including technical definitions, theoretical perspectives, and empirical research). The main purpose of the introduction is to provide the necessary background or context for the research proposal. Use uploaded references, if you find more that’s okay.

State the research problem (purpose of study, e.g., contribute to improve clinical settings).
Provide context and set the stage for the research question in such a way as to show its necessity and importance.
Present the rational of the proposed study and clearly indicate why it is worth doing.
Briefly describe the major issues and sub-problems to be addressed by the research.
Because this will be a qualitative study, specify the phenomenon that will be studied.
Set de delimitation or boundaries of the proposed research in order to provide clear focus.

2. Critical Review of the Literature:

Use a wide range of relevant scientific papers from the theoretical and/or empirical literature is summarized concisely. There is a clear critical evaluation of theories and /or empirical methods with a clear research gap identified and strong rationale of why such a gap needs to be examined. Make sure areas requiring cultural sensitivity are identified and adaptation to the method is considered.

3.Reflexive Statement:

Please acknowledge researchers interest and standpoint, as well as subjectivity in the research proposal.

Participants: Between 8 to 12 survivors of childhood sexual abuse from a cohort of baby-boomers, with one or more siblings will be interviewed. These individuals do not have diagnosed mental health issues or psychological issues due to childhood sexual abuse. Participants will be recruited via…..

Design:  Thematic Analysis, with the objective to identify common themes.

Materials:  A semi-structured interview with 8 interview questions, recorded and to be transcribed verbatim.
