Second Coming of Christ

52

You are to turn in a 12–15-page Research Paper on a specific area within the study of eschatology. You should avoid topics that are extremely broad in their range. Included in your research, you should give a brief synopsis of the history or development of this doctrine (1–2 pages) and an application of this doctrine for the church today (1–2 pages). You will have at least 1 academic source per page in length (i.e., You must have a minimum of 15 different scholarly sources cited in a 15-page paper). The page length does not include a title page or the reference page. All formatting should be according to the most recent edition of the Turabian manual.

The structure of the Research Paper will be the following (please replace the highlighted sections with the content of the Research Paper):

Paper Title

Title

Project Outline

Detail your major and minor point. This is not to exceed 1 page.

Project Introduction

Write the introductory section detailing precisely what your essay will demonstrate (Thesis Statement). Why is this important? What are the salient issues that will be discussed? How do you plan to limit the discussion? The introduction should not be more than 1–2 pages.

Proposed Topic:

In 1 sentence, tell the reader what you plan on researching.

Proposed Thesis Statement:

Graduate writing cannot be “A” quality without a thesis statement. The thesis statement provides the destination of the paper. In science we call this the “hypothesis.” It states succinctly what you intend to prove or demonstrate. The topic/title of the paper will tell the reader which direction the essay is heading (N, S, E, or W) and a transition statement tells the reader the steps that will be taken to get to the destination. A strong conclusion cannot be written without a strong thesis statement. The thesis drives the conclusion. If you know beforehand what you are trying to accomplish, then in your conclusion you can tell if you have accomplished this goal or not.

Project Summary

Write a brief, 1-paragraph summary of what you hope to accomplish in this study.

Preliminary Bibliography

Minimum of 7 sources in current Turabian format. Example:

Bray, Gerald. L. The Doctrine of God. Downers Grove: Intervarsity Press, 1993.

Bibliography Summary

Write a 1–2-sentence summary of each of your preliminary sources and how each source relates to your topic/thesis.
