Risk Management Practices in the Hospitality Industry

A 3,000-word portfolio critically appraising risk management practice within a discipline (or comparing a number of disciplines) based on evaluation of 4-5 peer-reviewed and/or professional papers.  This will take the form of the production of a ‘Reading in Risk’ on a topic chosen and researched by the student.  The task will be to introduce the topic, critically evaluate the papers, and link them into a coherent review in such a way that readers are encouraged to read them for themselves.

Instructions:

• Choose a current risk topic and identify 4-5 current articles or papers that discuss interesting aspects or interpretations of the subject.
• You might find it useful to start with a general paper that presents an overview of the topic and why it is interesting and then go on to identify controversial elements, new innovations or interesting applications and present papers that develop these ideas. This is an academic exercise
• Your portfolio should present photocopies or printed versions of the full articles with a short (2-300 word) critique of each one highlighting the contribution it makes to the field.  You should write a short introduction to the whole portfolio and conclude it with a short summary of your main conclusions (about 750-1000 words each).
