NextGen technology solving problems in aviation and making flying safer

This paper will highlight the FAA’s future focus on modernizing the National Airspace System via NextGen. The goal of NextGen is double sided the FAA plans to improve safety through advancing technology, implementing policies, processes, and analytical ability all while adding increased capacity and efficiency benefits to the NAS. NextGen is a portion of the FAA’s new Safety Management System (SMS). While NextGen is a portion of the larger (SMS), which provides a systematic approach to mitigating risk NextGen provides Pilots, ATC and Safety Managers a higher level of technological benefits that aid in mitigating the risk of any number of aviation challenges that may occur not only during routine flight operations but emergency situations
