Mississippi Burning

47

This is a 6 page paper it is essentially a movie review, but with a structured analysis that contains concepts from this term integrated into the review. For example, if you choose a movie about a President, you need to discuss aspects of what you have read in the text (and found in outside sources – either about the film or the Presidency in general) and how they can are being applied in the film. It will be critical to use source material to assist in analyzing the film, because it’s quite possible that depending on which film you choose, your paper will spend some time debunking the fiction from what really occurs in the political system.

You must utilize at least five citations in this paper, one being my textbook and another, your film to create a good argument, and an A paper, you will need to do a little bit of outside research, and find a quote or concept from an additional resource.

********The movie chosen is Mississippi Burning********

Texts book from class:

Government by the People, Brief Edition. David B. Magleby, Paul C. Light, and Christine L. Nemacheck. ISBN: 978-0-205-88400-1

Here are the aspects that should be covered in the paper: (See below)

1) Intro: A little about the film or television show, and how it represents and discusses an aspect of the political system

 Example of something you might use in place of a thesis: The film I will be discussing is The American President, which showcases the different roles of the President, both in politics and in their personal lives.

2) Body Paragraphs: Should discuss (not necessarily in this order, but how it will best flow in your paper):

a. A short summary of the film

b. How you are tying it back to the text

c. Concepts seen in the text that are represented in the film (this should be the bulk of your paper)

d. Other concepts you would like to mention that may integrate other courses you have studied, or other theories you have found (not necessary, only when applicable – many of these films crossover with Sociology and Psychology topics and theories

e. Fact vs. Fiction (this can be integrated throughout, or focused on in a few paragraphs)

3) Conclusion: Why you chose this film or television show and how your view of it has changed since beginning this class (i.e. how are you looking at it differently after studying American Politics?)
