Counseling Session

229

Writer this assignment is a Hypothetical  Make Believe Assignment. The student is actually suppose to interview a INDIVIDUAL NEEDING THERAPY in a real counseling thats supposed to be taped. I need you as the writer to pretend that you are in a counseling session with a individual of the writers choice. Create a problem for that individual and as the Therapist counsel the individual.

Directions  and Guidelines for Written  Critiques: You will prepare a typed self-critique of the the counseling session. You will  transcribe the segment of your counseling session.

There are two parts to the paper.
Segment A is one that you select that illustrates your counseling strengths.
Segment B is one that you select that is an example of an area that you believe, with feedback and progress; you could have handles more effectively.
You will therefore have two (2) brief critiques for each counseling session.
Write a short (2 pages) evaluative summary of your counseling session.
Include the following sections:

Give a brief description of the client.
Give a brief summary of session content.
What were your goals for this session?
What did you do well in this session?
What are some areas where you wish you had done better?
Where did you get lost or off track?
What concerns might you have about the client dynamics (i.e. client tends to externalize; client is difficult to focus)?
What would you like to accomplish as a counselor next time you work with this client?

Self-Observation (linking counselor-in-training thoughts, feelings and actions with client behaviors). As you review each of your responses, ask yourself the following questions:
What did I hear the client say?
What was I seeing the client do?
How did I want to respond to the client at this point?
What was I thinking about what I heard and saw?
How did I choose from among the alternatives?
How did I intend to proceed with my selected response?
Did I establish an environment sufficiently conducive to counseling?
Was I accepting and permissive of client’s emotions, feelings and expressed
thoughts?
Did I feel connected to my client?
What did I actually say or do?
 How successful was I?
What improvements would I make if I could do the session over?
