Big Data and How It’s Presented

Review the readings listed in unit 7. Your task for this assignment is to analyze the construction, analysis, and presentation of a set of big data, and explain how data-informed decision-making occurs in relation to the regulatory climate in which a community college may operate.

Introduction

• set the context for the paper - the big picture of big data and how it’s presented. the purpose of the paper and how this paper is organized.

Analysis of Datasets

• describe the source of the chosen data, how it was collected, and how it is stored.

Regulatory Issues

• explain how the regulations at a community college and guide the collection and analysis of data. Consider such factors as confidentiality and privacy.

Assessment of Presentational Elements from a Dataset

• select one example of how the data are presented. It can be a table, a chart or a text description (use an APA number and title for a table or figure. Be sure to refer to the table or figure by number and title in the text before it is presented). Based on your reading about data visualization (in the Booth et al. text), assess the strength of the evidence being presented.

Media Strategies

• discuss, after reading the Scientific American articles (and watching the Rosling video), how the data might be presented in a more powerful and persuasive manner to make the case it intends.
