Army Ethics Discussion Paper

Paper must address the following 4 questions:

1. How does the Army gain and keep it's status as a profession? Give examples as to when this status declined.

2. Describe the Just War Tradition(JWT) and explain the purpose for it. Why should the U.S. Army officers study and understand JWT? Explain.

3. How do Virtue Theory, Deontological Theory, and Utilitarian Theory differ? How should a US Army officer apply them in making ethical decisions? Explain.

4. Do you agree with conventional ethical relativism, or do you agree with ethical objectivism? Explain your position. How do these differing viewpoints relate to the US Army's expectation of its Soldiers and your role as a field grade officer in your organization, in establishing an ethical climate, upholding ethical standards and developing leaders.

Each question needs to be answered about 1 page long. Answers will be typed and double-spaced, using Times new Roman 12-pitch font and one-inch margins. Cite sources using either footnotes or endnotes IAW Turabian style of documentation.
