In a five to seven-page essay, please respond to the following prompt. Be sure to clearly state your argument with a thesis that is supported by at least three pieces of evidence cited from the course textbook (Reader's Africa: Biography of a Continent).
In 1963, Oxford historian Hugh Trevor-Roper argued, "Perhaps, in the future, there will be some African history to teach. But at present, there is none, or very little: there is only the history of Europeans in Africa. The rest is largely darkness... And darkness is not a subject for history." Is Roper correct? In other words, does sub-Saharan Africa have a history that predates European exploration and conquest?
