Book :  A first look at Communication Theory by Em Griffin , Andrew Ledbetter, Glenn Sparks  

For your fourth written assignment, I would like you to write an extended application of a communication theory. For this assignment, you may use any theory listed as a topic on the course syllabus. Choose just one theory to apply in depth. 

For this assignment, you will need to: 

• Describe a specific practical example, and provide background information about it. The example that you identify could be interpersonal, organizational, group, or media related. It should be something that has actually happened or is happening, not a hypothetical 

Scenario (10 points) 

• Identify a theory that gives you insight into this example. Talk explicitly about how the 

scope of the theory relates to the example you identified (5 points). 

• Describe the key concepts and relationships of the theory that you chose (5 points). 

• Fully analyze the example using the theory to help you. Clearly state how the theory helps you to explain or understand the example (10 points). 

• Using the theory to guide you, suggest potential solutions (10 points). For instance, if you are talking about something you experienced, what would you do differently now that you know the theory? 

If you would like to elaborate on an application of theory that you used for the online discussion post, you may. However, your answer for this assignment should be of great depth. Use all of the components of the theory to gain as much insight into the example as you can. If you feel that some components of the theory do not apply, talk about how they are inadequate and suggest modifications to the theory. 

Your paper should be three to four pages (not including the title or references). Be sure to use 1 inch margins on all sides and Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced. Additionally, you should include a cover sheet and reference page within the same Word document. As with all of your assignments for this class, please use APA 6th edition format.
